Atis root is primarily used to treat fevers, including malarial conditions, as well as acute respiratory disturbances. In comparison to Aconite, a highly toxic plant, Atis root is less toxic. However, it also goes through a detoxification process before being used in the production of Ayurvedic medicines. Experiments suggest that it has active anti-malarial and antipyretic properties.
